Invest in the Right Woolens for Newborns

If you are looking for a useful yet special gift for a new mother and baby, knitted booties can make a great present. Gifts that the mother or baby can use to make their first few months more comfortable are always appreciated, and knitted booties are a thoughtful gift that is both useful yet can still be sentimental in the years to come; baby booties and shoes can be kept as a memento of the baby’s first year.

Knitted booties are a great choice for newborns, as they are soft and supple and will allow little feet to breathe and move freely as they grow. Lots of people choose alpaca wool for knitted booties and other baby clothing, as it is a very fine high quality alternative to sheep’s wool. Alpaca fibres are long and lustrous, more like human hair than dense sheep’s wool fibres. This long length means that when they are spun together they create a very strong and durable wool, and many people find that alpaca products do not bobble or develop holes like other wool products. This makes alpaca wool perfect for knitted booties, as it can withstand lots of pulling, stretching and washing over time. Alpaca is also a good choice for baby clothing, as it contains no lanolin. This is present in sheep’s wool, and is responsible for the itchy scratchy feeling that you often get from wool. Some people are allergic to lanolin, and it can irritate sensitive skin; because alpaca wool contains no lanolin it is perfect for newborn babies, who have very soft and sensitive skin.

Lots of people would prefer to dress their newborns in completely natural materials such as organic cotton. Alpaca knitted booties and other alpaca baby clothing can be 100% pure and natural, as alpaca fibres come in over twenty two natural shades! You can choose from black and white, greys, browns and cream, and even silver! With the wide range available it should be easy to find something that you like in a natural shade, so that you can be sure that the garments you buy do not contain any harsh chemical dyes. It should also be possible to find products that use natural dyes if you would like pink or blue knitted booties, and there are lots of online stores that will be able to provide completely natural clothing for newborns.

Alpaca products can be found online, and lots of websites will have a wide range of baby clothing for you to choose from. It is a good idea to check the background of any site that you buy from; look for information on how they source their wool, as companies that keep their own alpacas in good conditions are generally the best ones to choose. If you are purchasing a gift for a new mother and baby, then some sites may also be able to offer a personalised gift wrapping service so that your product arrives well presented, either wrapped or boxed and ready to give.
